Professional Experience

Elizabeth Mullins is a second-generation native Arizonan. Growing up in Tempe, Arizona, Elizabeth cared about only two things: swimming and becoming a criminal defense attorney.

As an athlete, a student, and an attorney, she has a proven track record for being a diligent, successful, and fearless competitor. She graduated from McClintock High School and during her tenure was honored with All-City, All-Region, and All-State recognition for her achievements in the pool. She also set both school and regional swimming records.

Elizabeth earned a full scholarship to Arizona State University where she competed for ASU Swimming (then Division I, Pac-10 Conference). Elizabeth was a National Achievement Scholar, ASU Board of Regent’s Scholar, President’s Scholar, ASU Merit Scholar, and Maroon & Gold Scholar Athlete. Elizabeth earned her Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies with a concentration in Psychology. While an undergraduate student, Elizabeth worked as a law clerk for a national law firm in Phoenix, Arizona, in its White Collar Crime and Special Matters Group.

Elizabeth was awarded a scholarship to attend Vanderbilt University Law School where she was named the Executive Chief Justice of the National First Amendment Competition sponsored by the John Siegenthaler First Amendment Center and Freedom Forum. This is the premier national moot court competition accepting only the top 25 teams in the country. Elizabeth was also one of only four students selected to the Cal Turner Program on Professional Moral Leadership and she served on the Trial Advocacy Society, the Moot Court Board, and as President of the Criminal Law Society.

Upon earning her Juris Doctor, Elizabeth joined the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office where she quickly solidified her reputation as an organized, diligent, and fearless advocate for her clients, regardless of the severity of their charges. As only a third-year attorney, she was selected to serve as co-counsel for one of the first “Honor Killing” prosecutions in the United States. The trial was nationally televised and has been discussed in multiple books and news programs such as 48 Hours. Elizabeth and her co-counsel successfully convinced the jury to find their client not guilty of first degree murder and not guilty of attempted murder. Although he was convicted of lesser included offenses, the verdict was nationally touted as a significant win for the defense.

After serving Maricopa County for nearly five years, Elizabeth joined one of the largest firms practicing only criminal defense in the State of Arizona. It was there that she expanded her practice to include DUIs, federal offenses, appellate representation, and became a Certified Criminal Law Specialist by the Arizona Board of Legal Specialization. Elizabeth has appeared in nearly every court in Arizona, including city, justice, superior, and federal courts. She has also appeared in the United States District Court for the Central District of Los Angeles where she negotiated a very favorable resolution for an American who was extraterritorially prosecuted for sexual conduct with children and production of child pornography overseas.

After five years as a private attorney in a large firm, Elizabeth decided to open the Law Office of Elizabeth Mullins to provide her clients with the personalized service they deserve and the expertise she has refined over ten years in the courtroom. Elizabeth has been routinely described by prosecutors, colleagues, and judges alike as intimidating, aggressive, fearless, and methodical. She’s the attorney you need on your side.
